Study visit in Madrid

Study visit to National Spanish Police in Madrid/Spain within the project „Enhancing capacity of services to combat drug trafficking at the European level” co-financed by the Internal Security Fund - Police.

On 26th-29th of May, 2019 there was held the study visit to Madrid concerning the project „Enhancing capacity of services to combat drug trafficking at the European level” financed from the European’s Union’s Internal Security Fund-Police.

The purpose of the study visit was to t get to know the technical capacity of the Spanish National Police  in combating drug-related crime and  to exchange knowledge and experience in this domain. 

During the study visit  the representatives of the  Regional Police Headquarters in Lublin, Nadbużański Border Guard Unit, the National Police Head Quarters -  Polish Police Central Bureau of Investigation, Estonian Police and Border Guard, National Police General Directorate in Bulgaria, the Berlin Police, Satu Mare County Police Inspectorate, General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police got acquainted with the legal regulations on drugs use/trafficking and  state strategies concerning anti-drug policy in Spain.  The organizational structure of the drug sections and tasks in relation to prevention and fight against drug-related crime, statistics and main problems which National Spanish Police faces in the domain of drug-related crime were presented. The participants visited the Organized Crime Central Brigade, in particular the Narcotics Central Brigade where they got to know the major drugs trafficking routes, in particular heroin, cocaine and hashish trafficking paths. They were presented the rising problem concerning synthetic drugs as well as the information on Eastern Europe organized crime and problems with the fugitives were described. The project participants  visited also the Special Equipment Department and  the Telephone Communications Wiretap Department where they could compare the technical possibilities  in combating drug-related crime.

Thanks to the visit, the participants could exchange information in relation to their daily activities concerning combating drug trafficking and establish working contacts which may be fruitful in their work.
